BrailleCoach enhances
the goal of teaching Braille by
providing independent study, reinforcement and instant feedback. The
Logan BrailleCoach uses RFID (radio frequency identification) technology to
make "speaking" Braille embossed tags. Users simply pick a tag,
place it on the raised button, and press to hear what the embossed pattern
signifies. The set of tags that come with the device represents Grade 1
Standard Braille and introduction to Grade 2 Braille structure. The
device operates in three different modes: letter and dots, letters, and
letters and words (introduction to Grade 2). This offers a graduated
series of mastery levels that parallels traditional classroom or one-on-one
instruction. There
are blank tags available for the BrailleCoach. These allow a user to
progress to Grade 2 Braille or to add specific vocabulary and custom tags to
the user's group of words. One needs a Braille Labeler (not included with
the device) to create new embossed labels to place on the tags. The
actual recording of these custom tags can be done in less than two
seconds. The programming tags, labeled in Braille, are used to increase
or reduce volume, determine battery level and to make customized
recordings. There is a headphone jack for private study and listening. For
